The LWL Museum of Art and Culture in Münster has restored the artwork “Study Garden” by Siah Armajani (1939–2020), which the artist created in 1987 for the Skulptur Projekte. In the run-up to Skulptur Projekte Münster 2027, “Study Garden” has now been restored. In consultation with the estate of Siah Armajani, the base was extended and partially renewed, whilst the furniture of the open-air ensemble was renovated with meticulous attention to detail. The museum’s joiners replaced the timber in the benches, stools and a table. The substructures were partly replaced with aluminium, reinforced and repainted. A central aspect of the restoration was preserving the work in its largely original form whilst ensuring its protection against current and future climatic conditions.

With the “Study Garden”, Armajani created an open-air study environment. The public, as well as students and teaching staff, use this area as a place to relax and work. The sculpture reflects Armajani’s artistic practice, which is characterised by the ideas of functionality and social participation.
